Here is a wonderful specimen of Lycoptera sp. from the Jurassic of China. This specimen is quite large for the type and exhibits superb detail - the bone structure is extremely well defined and the fins are nicely displayed. The dark color of the fish contrasts beautifully with the tannish-gray matrix. The fossil is almost perfectly centered on the large (4.5" X 6.7"), natural plate of shale that also contains another partial fish. There is also a large fish on the reverse side of the slab. This is an excellent example of this Jurassic fish.
