Here is a fabulous specimen of a fossil fish. This is an extremely large Diplomystus dentatus from the Green River Formation of Wyoming. This fish exhibits incredible detail. The bone structure and fins are beautifully displayed. The eye socket is clearly defined, and the upturned mouth is easily seen. The fossil fish even reveals possible stomach contents which is highly unusual. The fish has great color and excellent contrast. It is almost perfectly centered on a large, unbroken, rectangular plate of shale that measures 8.9" X 14.6" This is a stunning specimen of a large fossil herring from the Eocene. It is simply one of the most displayable Diplomystus we have ever been able to offer.
