Here is a fantastic example of a predatory fish. This is Phareodus testis from the Eocene of Wyoming. This type of fish has a very wide body and two large fins near the tail. The fish is complete and exhibits fine detail. The bone structure of the fish is very well preserved and the eye socket is quite apparent. The large fins are easily seen, and the sharply-pointed teeth in the open mouth are just awesome! This is one of the most outstanding displays of the teeth of Phareodus that we have ever seen. The fish has very good color and contrast and is wonderfully centered on the large rectangular plate of shale. This is a spectacular specimen of this ferocious fish from the Green River Formation.
