Here is a wonderfully-preserved fossil fish. It is a Phareodus testis from the Eocene of Wyoming. This specimen exhibits marvelous detail. The bone structure is clearly defined and the fins are beautifully displayed. Even the scale pattern is intact, which is highly unusual. This predatory fish had large teeth for feeding, and many sharply-pointed teeth are EASILY seen on this specimen. The fish has excellent, natural, orangish-brown color and contrasts well with the cream-colored matrix. It is almost perfectly centered on the rectangular plate of shale. This is an incredible example of this carniverous fish from the Fossil Lake Deposits.
