Here is an extremely rare fossil fish. This fish was discovered at the famous Eocene fossil plant locality near Bonanza, Utah. Very few fish have ever been found at this site. The fish looks somewhat like Amia, although we are unsure of the exact identification. The fish appears to be a hatchling - the ''bones'' appear to be unossified. The extremely large eyes are quite evident and even the fins can be seen. The dark-colored fish contrasts wonderfully with the khaki-colored matrix. The fish is extremely well centered on the rectangular plate of shale. This is a great specimen of this highly unusual fossil fish.
