Here is a wonderful fossil fish. It is a complete Phareodus testis from the Eocene of Wyoming. This distinct specimen exhibits fine detail. The bone structure is clearly defined, and the fins and tail are beautifully showcased - even the scale pattern is intact, which is somewhat unusual. This predatory fish has large teeth for feeding, and a few sharply-pointed teeth are preserved on this specimen. The fossil has nice natural, orange color that contrasts well with the cream-colored matrix. The fish is showcased one the semi-rectangular plate of shale. This is a fine example of this carniverous fish from the Fossil Lake Deposits.
