This is one of the most unusual types of fossil fish in the world. It is a complete Coccodus from the Cretaceous layers of Lebanon. Political unrest in Lebanon has made fossil collecting difficult, and very few nice specimens are available. This bizarre fossil fish has very fine detail preserved - the fluke-like fins are beautifully intact, even the spiny, reticulated surface is fossilized. The complete skull, with its unique crusher teeth displayed, is very easily seen. The distinct fish is well showcased on the rectangular plate of limestone. And there is absolutely no restoration or enhancement whatsoever to this specimen! This is a very exciting find, and one of the best fossil fish we have had from Lebanon.
