This is a large, colorful example of Mioplosus labracoides from the Eocene of Wyoming. This highly detailed fish exhibits very fine bone structure - the eye socket is easily seen, the backbone is quite distinct, and the scales are even preserved. The orange-brown fossil contrasts nicely with the cream-colored matrix. The long fish is beautifully showcased on the large plate of shale. This is a very nice, large specimen of this uncommon predatory fish from the Green River Shale.
