This is simply a HUGE fossil fish. It is a gigantic Phareodus fossil fish from Wyoming. This specimen was recently acquired from the Richard Busch Collection. Busch was the Preparator/Asst. Curator at the North Museum in Lancaster, PA from 1965-1992. Phareodus was a predatory fish, with a mouth full of sharp teeth. This specimen showcases these teeth beautifully (the bottom jaw has flipped over in fossilization...cool!). The fish is well preserved and has fine detail displayed. The many bones are well showcased, and the fins and tail are easily seen. The fish is well displayed on the large matrix plate. And, remember, this fish is almost 19 inches long - this is the largest Phareodus fish we have ever had! This is a very impressive predatory Phareodus from the Green River Formation.
