Here is a very cool plate of fossil fish. There are THREE fine examples of Knightia eocaena on the slab. This specimen is from the famous Green River Formation of Wyoming. All three fish are complete and exhibit fine detail. The bone structures are clearly defined, and the fins and tails are easily seen. The eye sockets are quite distinct and even the backbones are preserved. The fish have great brown color, which contrasts nicely with the cream-colored matrix. The fossils are well displayed, actually touching, on the large, squared plate of shale. This is an excellent display specimen of three fossil herring from the Green River Formation.
