This is a rare baby specimen of Phareodus testis from the Green River Formation of Wyoming. This type of predatory fish grows to over two feet long, so this is a nice juvenile example. The fish is nicely centered on the plate of shale. The fossil fish has good color and contrasts well with the matrix. The fossil exhibits great detail - the bone structure is nicely preserved, and the distinct teeth are easily seen in the mouth. This is a very fine juvenile example of Phareodus from the Green River Formation.
