This is a very nice example of juvenile Mioplosus labracoides from the Eocene of Wyoming. This type of fish reaches two feet in length, so this is an extremely young fish. This uncommon fish exhibits distinct bone structure - the backbone, skull, fins, and tail are very easily seen. The brown fossil contrasts nicely with the cream-colored matrix. The complete fish is wonderfully showcased on the rectangular plate of shale. This is a very nice specimen of this baby predatory fish from the Green River Shale.
