Here is an extremely detailed fossil fish. This is a large Diplomystus dentatus from the Eocene of Wyoming. This fossil herring is complete and preserves very fine detail. The bone structure of the fish is wonderfully defined. The eye socket of the fish is easily seen, and the fins and tail are very nicely displayed. The striking, dark brown color of the fish contrasts beautifully with the cream-colored matrix. The fossil is well displayed on the large, rectangular plate of shale. This is a beautiful, top quality example of Diplomystus from the Green River Formation, ready for framing!
