Here is a very nice plate of fossil fish. There are two fine examples of Knightia eocaena on the slab. This specimen is from the famous Green River Formation of Wyoming. Both fish are complete and exhibit fine detail. The bone structure is clearly defined, the eye sockets are quite distinct, and even the backbones are preserved. The fish have nice orange-brown color, which contrasts nicely with the cream-colored matrix. The fossils are well displayed on the large plate of shale that also contains two rare coprolites (poops). This is an excellent multiple specimen of two fossil herring from the Eocene.
