This is a nice, large example of Mioplosus labracoides from the Eocene of Wyoming. This detailed fish exhibits wonderful bone structure - the skull is quite distinct, and the backbone is easily seen. The orange-brown fossil contrasts nicely with the cream-colored matrix. The complete fish is beautifully displayed on the semi-rectangular plate of shale. This is a large specimen (almost NINE inches!) of this uncommon predatory fish from the Green River Shale.
