This is a great split pair fossil. It is a very nice Vinctifer comptoni from Brazil. This specimen was recently acquired from the Richard Busch Collection. Busch was the Preparator/Asst. Curator at the North Museum in Lancaster, PA from 1965-1992. Vinctifer is an extinct genus of prehistoric bony fish that lived during the Aptian stage of the Early Cretaceous Period. This specimen is quite large - well over a foot long! The fish was fossilized in a concretion, which preserves detail very well. The head, body, fins, tail, and even the scales are preserved! And the concretion has been split in half to expose the fish in both sides - two fossils for the price of one! This is a very collectible and beautifully preserved split pair Vinctifer fish from South America.
