This is a very unusual specimen of Lycoptera davidi from the Jurassic of China. First, this is a split pair fossil. Second, there are two fish preserved here back to back! The bone structure of the fish is clearly defined, and the large eyes and open mouths of the fish are easily seen. The dark-brown color of the fossils contrasts beautifully with the tannish-grey matrix. The fish are well presented on the large, natural plates of shale. And, remember, this is a split pair fossil - both halves are included together! This is a very collectible part/counterpart fossil fish from the time of the dinosaurs.
