This is a very fine plate of two different fossil fish from the Eocene of Wyoming. Both fish are complete and exhibit excellent form and wonderful detail. On the top of the slab is a striking specimen of Mioplosus labracoides. This highly uncommon predatory fish has the bone structure, fins, and tail beautifully displayed. A fine example of Diplomystus dentatus, a fossil herring, is on the bottom side of the slab. This sleek fish shows the eye socket very clearly. The dark brown fish contrast nicely with the cream-colored matrix. The fossils are extremely well displayed on the large, rectangular plate of shale. This is a very collectible slab of two types of fish from the Green River Formation.
