This is a very large example of Mioplosus labracoides from the Eocene of Wyoming. This detailed fish exhibits wonderful bone structure - the backbone is extremely well preserved! The brown fossil contrasts nicely with the cream-colored matrix. The massive fish is well showcased on the semi-oval plate of shale. This is a very large specimen (over 10 inches long!) of this uncommon predatory fish from the Green River Shale.
