This is a nice, large example of Mioplosus labracoides from the Eocene of Wyoming. This highly detailed fish exhibits superb bone structure - the eye socket is easily seen, and the backbone, fins, and tail are all well preserved. The orange-brown fossil contrasts nicely with the cream-colored matrix. The colorful fish is beautifully showcased on the semi-squared plate of shale. This is a very impressive, complete specimen of this uncommon fish from the Green River Shale.
