Here is a highly uncommon fossil fish. This is a complete Eohiodon falcatus from the Eocene of Wyoming. This type is sometimes called a "mooneye", and is a predatory fish. This specimen displays well, and even has the mouth open and some of the teeth exposed! The orange coloration of the fish contrasts beautifully with the cream-colored matrix. The fish is well showcased on the unbroken plate of shale. This is a very fine example of this hard-to-find type of fossil fish.
