This is a cool example of Mioplosus labracoides from the Eocene of Wyoming. This highly detailed fish exhibits superb bone structure - the eye socket is easily seen and even some teeth are preserved! The orange-brown fossil contrasts nicely with the cream-colored matrix. The long fish is beautifully showcased on the semi-oval plate of shale. This is a very nice specimen of this uncommon predatory fish from the Green River Shale.
