This is a fine, large example of Mioplosus labracoides from the Eocene of Wyoming. This highly detailed fish exhibits superb bone structure - the eye socket is easily seen, and the many ribs are well preserved. The brown fossil contrasts nicely with the cream-colored matrix. The complete fish is beautifully showcased on the large, rectangular plate of shale. This is a nice, large specimen of this uncommon fish from the Green River Shale.
