This is a nice fossil fish. It is a complete Knightia from the Green River Formation of Wyoming. The fossil fish is well preserved and exhibits wonderful detail. The eye socket is easily seen, the fins are very defined, and the tail is quite evident. This fish has nice, dark coloration and contrasts nicely with the cream-colored rock. The fossil is well showcased on the rectangular matrix plate. This is an affordable example of a fossil fish from the Eocene.
