This is a nice predatory fossil fish. It is a fine Phareodus testis from the Eocene of Wyoming. This type of fish has a very wide body and two large fins near the tail. This fish is well preserved and exhibits outstanding detail. The bone structure is clearly defined, and the fins are wonderfully displayed. Even the sharply-pointed teeth in the open mouth are preserved - they are easily seen with the naked eye! The fish has excellent dark color and contrast and is well centered on the large, rectangular plate of shale. This is a very nice, complete example of this predatory fish from the Green River Formation.
