This is an excellent plate of two different fossil fish from the Eocene of Wyoming. Both fish are complete and exhibit excellent form and wonderful detail. But the unusual feature of this fossil is that there is a striking specimen of Amphiplaga bracyptera fossilized on top of a large Diplomystus! This highly uncommon Amphiplaga fish has great bone structure, and the fins and tail are beautifully displayed. A killer example of Diplomystus dentatus, a fossil herring, takes up most of the slab. This fish is quite large and shows the eye socket very clearly. Both orange-brown fish contrast nicely with the cream-colored matrix. The fish are naturally positioned on the rectangular plate of shale. This is a very displayable plate of two types of fish from the Green River Formation.
