This is a very fine fossil fish. It is a complete Diplomystus dentatus from the Eocene of Wyoming. This fossil herring is very distinct and has nice detail preserved. The bone structure of the fish is wonderfully defined - the eye socket of the fish is easily seen, and the fins and tail are beautifully displayed. The brown color of the fish contrasts nicely with the cool orange matrix. The fossil is well showcased on the squared plate of shale. This is a super nice example of Diplomystus from the Green River Formation.
