This is a very fine example of Mioplosus labracoides from the Eocene of Wyoming. This highly detailed fish exhibits wonderful bone structure - the distinct backbone is easily seen, and even the fins and tail are well preserved! The NATURAL orange-brown fossil contrasts nicely with the cream-colored matrix. The complete fish is beautifully showcased on the semi-oval plate of shale. This is a colorful, large specimen (ELEVEN inches long!) of this uncommon predatory fish from the Green River Shale.
