This is a very exotic fossil fish. It is an impressive Ctenothrissa vexillifer from the sublithographic limestone of Lebanon. Good fossils from this area are very hard to obtain because of years of political unrest, especially recently. This amazing specimen has a bizarre ''sail-backed'' dorsal fin and large, extended fins on the underside. The fish has incredibly fine detail, even displaying the distinct scale pattern and great bone structure. The fossil has great orange color and contrasts beautifully with the large plate of limestone matrix. This is a top quality example of this strange fossil fish from the Cretaceous coral reefs.
