Here is a very unusual creature from the Cretaceous Seas of Lebanon. This plate contains beautifully-preserved eel, Urenchelys sp. Fossil eels are EXTREMELY RARE in the fossil record, and this is a superb example. The large fossil exhibits great quality - the head is exquisitely preserved, and the teeth are even present. The bone structure is beautifully displayed, and the unique fins are easily seen. The orangish color of the fossil contrasts well with the cream-colored matrix. The eel is wonderfully showcased on the oval plate of sublithographic limestone. This is a very collectible specimen of one of the earliest fossil eels on record.
