This is a very cool fossil fish. It is a fine Ctenothrissa vexillifer from the sublithographic limestone of Lebanon. Fossils from this area are very hard to obtain because of years of political unrest, especially recently. This distinct specimen has a ''sail-backed'' dorsal fin and extended fins on the underside. The fish has very fine detail, even displaying the individual bones and large eye socket. The fossil has great color and contrasts beautifully with the large, rectangular plate of limestone matrix. This is a displayable example of this strange fossil fish from the Cretaceous coral reefs.
