Here is an unusual pair of fossil fish from the Pliocene of Italy. These are Bregmaceros albyi, a pencilfish. This type of extinct fish has a very long, slender body, and a tiny tail. The fossils have excellent, dark brown color. The contrast with the light-colored matrix is exceptional. The fish are nicely positioned on a large slab of matrix. This is a very uncommon double specimen of fossil pencilfish from Italy.
