This is an extraordinary fossil fish. It is an extremely fine Phareodus testis from the Eocene of Wyoming. This type of fish has a very wide body and two large fins near the tail. This fish is beautifully preserved and exhibits outstanding detail. The bone structure is clearly defined, and the fins are wonderfully displayed. Even the scale pattern is intact, which is quite unusual. The sharply-pointed teeth in the open mouth are just awesome - they are easily seen with the naked eye! The fish has excellent, natural color and contrast and is almost perfectly centered on the large, rectangular plate of shale. The fish is well displayed in a custom, professionally crafted wood frame. This is an extremely detailed example of this predatory fish from the Green River Formation.
