This is a very nice specimen of Mioplosus labracoides from the Green River Formation of Wyoming. This unusual perch-like fish exhibits very fine detail. The bone structure of the fish is quite evident - the backbone is very nicely displayed, and the fins and tail are well preserved. The eye socket is also easily seen. The distinct color of the fish contrasts nicely with the cream-colored matrix. The fish is well showcased on the large plate of shale that also contains a complete Diplomystus fish. This is a fineexample of a predatory fish from the Green River Formation.
