This is a fine example of Mioplosus labracoides from the Eocene of Wyoming. This highly detailed fish exhibits wonderful bone structure - the eye socket is easily seen, and even the backbone is preserved! The orange-brown fossil contrasts nicely with the cream-colored matrix. The distinct fish is beautifully showcased on the semi-oval plate of shale. This is a very large specimen (over a FOOT long!) of this uncommon predatory fish from the Green River Shale.
