This is a distinct fossil fish. It is a fine Phareodus testis from the Eocene of Wyoming. This type of fish has a very wide body and two large fins near the tail. This fish is well preserved and exhibits nice detail. The bone structure is clearly defined, and the fins are wonderfully displayed. The sharply-pointed teeth in the mouth are well displayed - they are easily seen with the naked eye. The fish has excellent, natural color and contrast and is well centered on the large, rectangular plate of shale. This is a very nice example of this predatory fish from the Green River Formation.
