This is a nice fossil fish on a large matrix plate. It is a fine Diplomystus dentatus from the Eocene of Wyoming. This fossil herring is complete and has fine detail preserved. The bone structure of the fish is wonderfully defined - the eye socket of the fish is easily seen, and the fins and tail are nicely displayed. The dark brown color of the fish contrasts nicely with the cream-colored matrix. The fossil is beautifully showcased on the large plate of shale. This is a very nice, displayable example of Diplomystus from the Green River Formation.
