Here is a highly uncommon fish. This is a complete Eohiodon falcatus from the Eocene of Wyoming. This type is called a "mooneye", and is a predatory fish. This specimen displays well, and even has the mouth open and some of the teeth exposed! The orange coloration of the fish contrasts beautifully with the cream-colored matrix. It is well centered on the unbroken, rectangular plate of shale. This is a very fine example of this hard-to-find type of fossil fish.
