Here is a top quality plate of fish from the Eocene of Wyoming. There are two different types of fish on the plate. On the top of the slab is a nice example of Knightia eocaena. This fossil herring has great bone structure preserved. A spectacular specimen of Amphiplaga brachyptera is preserved right underneath the Knightia. This fabulous fish has fine bone structure, and the fins and tail are beautifully displayed. Both dark brown fish contrast nicely with the cream-colored matrix. The fish are well showcased on the rectangular plate of shale. This is a very displayable example of two different fish from the Fossil Lake deposits.
