This is a very nice specimen of Mioplosus labracoides from the Green River Formation of Wyoming. This unusual perch-like fish exhibits very fine detail. The bone structure of the fish is quite evident - the backbone is very nicely displayed, and the tail is exquisitely preserved. The eye socket is also easily seen. The distinct brown color of the fish contrasts nicely with the cream-colored matrix. The fish is almost perfectly centered on the oval plate of shale. This is a very fine predatory fish from the Eocene.
