Here is a spectacular specimen of Lycoptera sp. from the Jurassic of China. This open-mouthed fish exhibits superb detail - the bone structure is well defined and the fins are nicely displayed. The dark color of the fish contrasts beautifully with the tannish-gray matrix. The fossil is almost perfectly centered on the large (5.5" X 5.8"), natural plate of shale. This is one of the nicest examples of this fish that we have seen.
