This is an excellent example of Mioplosus labracoides from the Eocene of Wyoming. This highly detailed fish exhibits superb bone structure. The fins are nicely preserved and the eye socket is easily seen. The dark brown fossil contrasts nicely with the cream-colored matrix. The large fish (over six inches long) is beautifully showcased on the semi-oval plate of shale. This is a very displayable specimen of this uncommon fish from the Green River Shale.
