This is a super juvenile example of a classic fossil fish. It is a baby Phareodus testis, a predatory fish from the Green River Formation. This specimen has very nice color and fine detail - the bone structure is easily seen. The large teeth are intact and well showcased, which is quite unusual for such a small fish (hard to see in photo). The fish is well centered on the large matrix plate that also contains a Knightia eocaena - this is one of the very few times you will ever see a Phareodus and Knightia on the same plate where the Knightia is larger!. This is an excellent example of this baby predatory fish from the Eocene.
This fossil was collected and obtained legally, and is also being sold legally.
