This is a very nice specimen of Mioplosus labracoides from the Green River Formation of Wyoming. This unusual perch-like fish exhibits very fine detail. The bone structure of the fish is quite evident - the backbone is very nicely displayed, and the fins and tail are well preserved. The eye socket is also easily seen. The distinct color of the fish contrasts nicely with the cream-colored matrix. The fish is almost perfectly centered on the rectangular plate of shale. This is a fine predatory fish from the Eocene.
This fossil was collected and obtained legally, and is also being sold legally.
