This is a beautiful display fossil. It is a large Phareodus fossil fish from the Eocene of Wyoming. Phareodus was a predatory fish, with a mouth full of sharp teeth. This specimen even exhibits some of those teeth. The fish is very well-preserved and has extremely fine detail. The bone structure is easily seen, and even the scale pattern of the fish is evident. The fins and tail are simply awesome - very complete and symmetrical. The individual fin rays are wonderfully defined. The fish has outstanding natural color and contrast and is almost perfectly centered on the large, rectangular plate of shale. The fish has been professionally framed for optimal display. And remember, the fish is almost 10 inches long. This is an excellent specimen of a framed Phareodus testis that would look great in anyone's collection.
This fossil was collected and obtained legally, and is also being sold legally.
