Here is a very nice fossil fish. This is Diplomystus dentatus from the Eocene of Wyoming. This fossil herring is complete and preserves fine detail. The bone structure of the fish is wonderfully defined. The eye socket of the fish is easily seen, and the fins are nicely displayed. The striking brown color of the fish contrasts beautifully with the cream-colored matrix. The fossil is well displayed on the large, squared plate of shale. This is a fine display example of Diplomystus from the Green River Formation.
