Here is a wonderful specimen of an unusual predatory fish. This is Eohiodon falcatus from the Green River Shale of Wyoming. Only a handful of these rare "mooneye" fish are found each year and this is a LARGE one. The fish is beautifully articulated and exhibits very good detail. The bone structure is plainly seen, and the fins are well displayed. The eye socket is quite evident, and many of the small teeth are visible in the open mouth. The fish has fine color and contrast and is well presented on the large plate of shale that also contains a nice Knightia eocaena fish. This is a very fine example of this highly uncommon predatory fish from the Eocene.
This fossil was collected and obtained legally, and is also being sold legally.
