This is a very nice plate of two fossil fish that are actually overlapping. These are Knightia eocaena from the Green River Formation of Wyoming. Both fish are well articulated and exhibit fine detail. The bone structure is quite evident, the eye sockets are easily seen, and the fins are wonderfully displayed. The naturally brown fish contrast beautifully with the golden-colored matrix. The fossils are well showcased on the large plate of shale (broken and securely repaired. This is a very affordable plate of two fossil herring from the Eocene Fossil Lake deposits.
