Here is an interesting plate of fish from the Eocene of Wyoming. There are two different types of fish on the plate. On the top of the slab is a nice example of Diplomystus dentatus. This fossil herring has great bone structure preserved. A wonderfully detailed specimen of Knightia eocaena is preserved right underneath the Diplomystus. This fish has fine bone structure and the fins and tail are beautifully displayed. Both dark brown fish contrast nicely with the cream-colored matrix. The fish are well showcased on the rectangular plate of shale that also contains another fish. This is a very displayable example of two different fish from the Fossil Lake deposits.
