Here is a museum quality fossil fish. This is Diplomystus dentatus from the Eocene of Wyoming. This fossil herring is complete and beautifully preserved. The bone structure of the fish is extremely well defined, the eye socket of the fish is easily seen, and the fins and tail are nicely displayed. The dark orange color of the fish contrasts strikingly with the cream-colored matrix. The fossil is well showcased on the semi-rectangular plate of shale. This is easily one of the most detailed examples of Diplomystus dentatus ever found.
This fossil was collected and obtained legally, and is also being sold legally.
